Japanese Platform Beds Give A Taste Of The Orient

The Oriental style has always been a popular one for many people, but this style has become ever more mainstream over the past few years and this is especially noticeable in areas of interior design such as furniture and especially in the bedroom, where many people seem to be looking for a design that complements feelings of harmony and peace, perhaps going some way towards giving them a good nights sleep.

This minimalist furniture design is showing itself in the increasing popularity of Japanese platform beds, a very low bed with a wide range of modern, clean designs, many which are inspired by the classic philosophy of Zen Buddhism. And it is not only the range of designs that is wide, because due to modern manufacturing methods, there are not only an increasing number of beds in this style but a wide range of prices, including a good number of cheap platform beds that can give you the Oriental feel without you having to break the bank.

These beds tend to be fairly strong and durable, especially when they are made out of modern materials such as steel and aluminum. A wooden platform bed will tend to be less strong, and also be fairly expensive, particularly if it is hand made or finished, and especially if it is made out of expensive woods such as walnut, cherry wood or teak.

Pine wood for the clean look

Pine platform beds tend to give a fresher look and feel, and will be fairly cheap in comparison to some of the more expensive hardwoods, but for a Japanese platform bed that gives you style and durability you really cannot do better than choose one made out of steel, perhaps one with chrome fittings to give a real feel of modernity and one that will be at home in any contemporary bedroom design.

When choosing any kind of bedroom furniture one of the most important things that you need to take into account is that of the storage, because many people will find that no matter how much room they seem to have there is always a problem with finding enough storage space, and it is here that platform beds with drawers [sometimes known as a divan bed] can really come into their own. These units placed beneath a platform bed will give you excellent storage and will also blend in with the contemporary style of your bedroom.

Storage beds

In many cases these drawers are almost hidden, and therefore you will be able to store things in such a way that will make your bedroom look far more spacious. All this goes hand-in-hand with the sleek design of a Japanese platform bed, a design made to be in harmony with simple interior design, although it is possible to find some with curved headboards, some of which will be filled with designs from nature, such as trees and birds for instance.

One traditional type bed worth considering is the Zen Simple Japanese design bed from Oriental Furniture. Costing around $300, this is a decently priced bed available in black, walnut, and honey finish made with mahogany. Included are head and foot rails, and can be fitted with tatami mats for a genuine Japanese bed feel. The platform bed by Modloft is a more expensive bed with a hardwood frame, available in king-sized and queen-sized versions, and with a leather headboard. It costs around $1,400. Also worth consideration is the Japanese Worth contemporary platform bed, a low profile bed, with solid hardwood frame that takes standard mattress sizes and done in a Espresso finish. Queen size is 60 inches wide x 80 inches deep, with King size being 76 inches wide x 80 inches deep.

Twin beds

When it comes to size, there is a range available to suit almost every kind of bedroom or sleeping arrangement. Single beds are fairly common for children, while twin platform beds are now a popular choice, even for people who generally sleep alone.

For real luxury a king size can be a great choice, and once you use one of these with under bed storage you will find that you can really get rid of a lot of clutter from your room, since it can supply so much free space. Take time to look at some of the many designs that are available in this particular bed type and you are sure to find one that will fit in perfectly with a modern bedroom design and give you some great storage facilities into the bargain.
